  2. Prepare 3 cups rice

Make the pilau masala: In a medium bowl, combine the cumin, paprika, cardamom, black pepper, and cloves. Great use of beef stew meat! Wonderful beef stew with coriander, coconut and tomatoes. This is a dish from East Africa, but has lots of Indian influence.

Steps to make Beef Pilau:
  1. Boil the meat til tender.
  2. Pound the garlic, ginger and tumeric and add it to finely chopped tomatoes.
  3. Fry the onions til golden brown and then add the tomatoes, ginger, garlic and tumeric and simmer for 5 mins.
  4. Add the meat, tomato paste, salt and pilau masala add leave it to cook for a few mins.
  5. Add the rice and water and leave it to cook. (Regulate the heat as required)
  6. When the water has dried up add chopped dania and cover for 2 mins. Then mix the pilau.
  7. Serve with a stew of choice. Enjoy 🍽️😋

If any pilau is left over, store in the fridge for up to two days. Shape into small patties, and pan fry with a little oil and serve with ketchup or a relish of your choice. I use beef instead of chicken in my pilau but it can also be made plain with no meat at all. Add the Beef and then the pilau mix. Let the spices burn a bit and add salt.
