- Soak chickpeas and fava beans in water overnight
- Start by draining the fava beans & chickpeas well, and grind in the food processor.
- Next grind the cilantro, onion, garlic, & add to the ground mixture of chickpeas & fava beans.
- Add all the spices and baking powder, and mix the very well.
- 10 minutes prior to frying falafel add the baking soda, and mix well.
- Using a special falafel mold start scooping the falafel mix into appropriate size tablets as needed
- Meanwhile in a large skillet, heat a sufficient amount of vegetable oil for deep frying.
- Then start immersing the falafel scoops in the hot oil.
- Flip over a couple of times until both sides are golden brown and crunchy on the outside.
- Remove from oil and place in a strainer to remove any excess oil.
- Falafel is served hot with tahini sauce, tomato slices, and pickles.
