- Get 1.5 cups yellow dried split peas
- Take 3 cups water
- Prepare 2 pcs tomatoes, chopped
- Get To taste Salt
- Prepare To taste chicken powder (omit this if you are vegetarian)
- Get for serving:
- Get 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped + extra for garnish
- Take 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- Get To taste kosher salt and black pepper
Instructions to make Dal with Split Peas (pressure cooker):
- Wash the split peas few times, set aside
- Using pressure cooker: add vegetable oil, stir fry onions and a pinch of salt and sauté until softened, 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in garlic, ginger, coriander, turmeric, cumin, and cayenne and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add split peas, water, tomatoes, salt and stir to combine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pressure cooker.
- Cover and seal the lid. Cook it for 10 minutes
- Once the 10 minutes are up, allow the pressure to release naturally
- Open the lid, stir in the cilantro (i didn’t have cilantro at that moment so i didn’t use it) and season with additional salt and pepper, to taste.
- Serve with basmati rice, or wrap (add chicken,spinach and use the dal for the spread. Super yummy!)
