The ingredients needed to make Beef pilau:
- Take 1/4 kg beef
- Take 1 onion
- Prepare 2 tspgrated garlic
- Get 2 tbsp pilau masala
- Prepare to taste salt
- Prepare 2 cups rice
- Take 25 g tomato paste
Make the pilau masala: In a medium bowl, combine the cumin, paprika, cardamom, black pepper, and cloves. Great use of beef stew meat! Wonderful beef stew with coriander, coconut and tomatoes. This is a dish from East Africa, but has lots of Indian influence.
Steps to make Beef pilau:
- Heat oil in a cooking pot. Add onions and saute them
- Add garlic, tomatoe paste and salt. Let all the vegies pop and turn brown
- Add fried meat and mix well into the paste. Avoiding burning the pot
- Add 4 cups of water to the meat and boilenough. When the water has boiled add rice
- Use a spoon to combine the rice with the boiling ingredients and continue cooking
- When water dries up remove your pilau and serve
If any pilau is left over, store in the fridge for up to two days. Shape into small patties, and pan fry with a little oil and serve with ketchup or a relish of your choice. I use beef instead of chicken in my pilau but it can also be made plain with no meat at all. Add the Beef and then the pilau mix. Let the spices burn a bit and add salt.
